This is a detailed paragraph, so how has the student gone from their notes to a complex response? This tool lets you collect them all in one place, making it much easier to reference them when needed. Ideally leave a day between finishing your essay and proofreading it. It is also important that you consider your time frame. When the time frame to achieve a complex goal is too short, it is rare that such goal will be completed. To be strategic, your goal would have to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. If you can’t identify any of these points in your goal, you probably will be wasting your time on a wild goose chase. SMART goal setting is one of the most valuable methods used by high achievers today to actualize their life goals time after time. When your goals are realistic, they make them worth the chase. One of the things to bear in mind is that, in order not to be overwhelmed by the daunting nature of your goals, remember to always break them into milestones, chunks, or bits. After writing down your goals, you will have to be ready to take action. Write down what you need to do on daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Let’s see the steps that Matrix English Students are taught to follow when using evidence in a T.E.E.L structure. Decide on how you can best convey this to a reader in one or two sentences. Reread the question and your thesis in response to it. Check your plan and decide what the focus of the paragraph will be. Evidence and argument presented in a T.E.E.L structure â€" This is the substance of your argument. SMART goal setting is the inverse of random or carefree goal setting without strategy. Proofreading is a process, but it doesn’t have to be a lengthy one. This guide tells you exactly how to proofread effectively, saving time when you’re close to the deadline. This tool is great for improving your proofreading and grammar skills. Paste your written work in and it will highlight any errors it finds. These can include too long sentences, too many adverbs, or words that have better alternatives. It even highlights different errors in different colours, making it even easier to see where you need to improve. However, it’s much harder to find those ideas again when you need them for an essay. Be ruthless at this stage â€" if the information isn't directly answering the question, cut it out! You will get many more marks for showing you can answer the question in a controlled and focused way than you will for an unordered list of everything you know about a topic. It is important to have a strategy in mind while putting it down. This strategy is a guideline or set of rules that point you in the right direction. It is SMART goal setting in the given circumstance. Without SMART goal setting in view, much of our goals may likely end in our minds, on paper, or just midway into implementation.

This will make your paper longer and is more appropriate for academic writing. Your conclusion should always begin by restating your thesis statement. You must show how your evidence proves your argument. This means fully discussing the implications of your evidence and connecting it back to your topic sentence. While your topic sentence should be limited to a single sentence, your elaboration can be longer. To build a house, you follow codes that ensure a basic build quality. A house that meets this standard, won't fall over, let the rain in, or let the heat out. It might only be a bungalow, but at least it will stand. A good conclusion will address the main arguments of each body paragraph in a succinct way and thoroughly prove your thesis statement. Examples of scholarly sources include academic journals, peer-reviewed articles, textbooks, books by accredited authors, and NPR articles. Examples of unacceptable scholarly sources are magazine articles, open forum submissions, encyclopedia entries, and unverified online sources. Together, these two or more sentences form your full statement of argument. Where you place your thesis in your introduction is up to you. Generally, I don't recommend placing it first, where context should go, nor in the last sentence. Your thesis statement is the most important part of your essay. It is the crux of everything and functions as a guide to your entire paper.

Writing An Essay? Here Are 10 Effective Tips

Writing An Essay? Here Are 10 Effective Tips You can’t possibly cover everything on a topic - and you are not expected to - so you need to tell your reader how you have chosen to narrow the focus of your essay. There are over a dozen types of essays, so it’s easy to get confused. After you write your five sentences, it’s easy to fill in the paragraphs they will find themselves in. That means that the best essays are about surprise, “You probably think it’s one way, but in reality, you should think of it this other way.” See tip #3 for more on this. Every story is about conflict and change, and the truth is that essays are about conflict and change, too! Be sure to provide a map, by previewing or outlining your essay, so that your target reader is at no time unsure which way you are going and where you are taking them. Now let’s summarise the main points of this tutorial. Remember to follow the formula to structure your introduction. The real value of writing introductions based on a simple structural formula is that you’re more likely to feel more confident about what you’re writing. Stop trying to write a good essay (or even a “good-enough” essay). Instead, write aninterestingessay, write an essay you think is fascinating. And when you’re finished, go back and edit it until it’s “good” according to your teacher’s standards. Logically structured body paragraphs which include supporting evidence from academic sources. Make sure that you are directly answering the question (and the whole essay question if there is more than one part!). The difference is that in an essay, the conflict is between different ideas, the change is in the way we should perceive those ideas. The Increasingly Global Georgetown McDonough School Of Business

The Increasingly Global Georgetown McDonough School Of Business by: Nathan Allen on November 23, 2015 | 0 Comments Comments 1,233 Views November 23, 2015When Norean Sharpe stepped foot onto Georgetown University’s Washington D.C. campus in 2009, it wouldn’t be unfair to say the McDonough School of Business was in a turbulent spot. The school had dropped from 10th  in the 2007 Bloomberg Businessweek rankings to 19th  in 2008 and to 24th  in 2009. The roll of senior associate dean and director of the undergraduate program  had been sitting vacant for half a year.Besides a year-long stint as the Director of Institutional Assessment at Babson College from 2005 to 2006 and three years as a Department Chair, Sharpe had never really held an administrative leadership position at a business school. But she was a seasoned faculty member at one of the leading schools for entrepreneurship and innovation. After a three-year rankings free-fall, McDonough  could use a l ittle innovative disruption. When Sharpe was hired, McDonoughs previous dean asked her to bring some of that spirit and innovation from Babson to McDonoughs undergraduate program. No new global programs had been created in quite a while,† Sharpe tells PoetsQuants during a meeting in San Francisco, also noting her excitement to work with faculty to begin implementing changes. Six years in, Sharpe has delivered on that innovation.RIGHTING THE McDONOUGH SHIPShes raised funds, implemented a new curriculum, and created a new, more ambitious global program. One result: After coming in at 23rd in 2010, McDonough catapulted in the  Bloomberg Businessweek 2011 rankings to 10th, though the school has settled back down to 18th last  year.  More importantly, however, Sharpe can point to a steady increase in the quality of the students coming into the undergraduate program.   The schools acceptance rate fell from  22% during the 2009-2010 application cycle to 15.7% for the most rec ent cycle. Yieldthe percentage of admits who enrollhas increased from a little more than 50% to nearly 60% during the same time. And with a 75th percentile SAT math score of 770, Sharpe says the quant SAT scores are higher, on average, than theyve ever been.â€Å"My approach is be entrepreneurial, be innovative, be willing to experiment and take risks,† Sharpe insists, sounding very much like the product of 15 years on the faculty at Babson, which hangs its hat on its entrepreneurial prowess.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Be willing to try something,† she continues. â€Å"Pilot programs and then you can always take input. You can take feedback. You can take critique. And then you can tweak the program and figure out how to reinforce and sustain what’s working. And how to perhaps revise what needs to be improved.†And so far, Sharpe’s been able to navigate the bureaucracy that can come within large institutions and initial faculty push-back  to pilot programs and incre mentally implement change and new programs.WANTS  STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE GLOBAL  Ã¢â‚¬Å"My two areas of emphasis have been, what can we do that’s innovative, what can we do that differentiates Georgetown McDonough School of Business from other programs,† Sharpe explains. â€Å"And secondly, how can we ramp up the global opportunities for our students so that when they  graduate, they understand what it means to be part of a global economy.†By all accounts, the school is graduating more globally-minded students. In 2009, McDonough had one custom summer study abroad program. And it was at Oxford. This past summer, the school sent students all over the worldto Hong Kong, Oxford, and Barcelona for either four or six weeks at a time.Tapping into Georgetowns Jesuit roots, Sharpe has also been able to implement and grow the Global Social Internship Program, which matches students with the Fabretto Children’s Hospital, a nonprofit in Nica ragua.  When it started a few years ago, Sharpe says, they sent four students to Nicaragua. This past summer, a dozen students went to Nicaragua and the school sponsored two students doing similar work in Peru, Costa Rica, India, and Shanghai. Page 1 of 212 »

Physics of the Golf Drive Essay - 1752 Words

This paper examines the physics involved in driving a golf ball off the tee. The objective of a drive is to achieve the greatest distance while leaving the golf ball in the middle of the fairway. Several factors will be considered in achieving the longest, and most accurate drive. The factors include calculating the velocity of the golf ball after the club and ball collide, the mass of the club head, launch angle, the shape of the club face, and finding the optimal golf ball. Intuition tells us that the larger the velocity of the club head at impact with the golf ball, the larger the velocity of the golf ball after the impact. To calculate the velocity of the golf ball we need to consider the relationship between the velocity of†¦show more content†¦Using the principle of conservation of momentum: 2) MVi + mvi = MVf + mvf where M is the mass of the club head, and m is the mass of the golf ball. The unknowns in the equations will be the final velocities of the golf ball and club head, so first eliminate one of the final velocities in equation 1 and substitute into equation 2. 3) Vf = vf - e(Vi - vi) sub into equation 2 4) MVi + mvi = M[vf - e(Vi - vi)] + mvf Since the golf ball is originally at rest, vi = 0, solving for final velocity of golf ball yields: 5) vf = [MVi(1 + e)] / (M + m) Using similar algebra steps to solve for the final velocity of the club head yields: 6) Vf = Vi(M - me) / (M + m) You can use these results and the fact that potential energy at the collision point is equal to zero to calculate the energy lost in the collision. 7) W = -(0.5MVf2 + 0.5mvf2 - 0.5MVi2) Our objective in driving a golf ball down the fairway is to keep it as straight as possible and to drive it as far as possible. It is therefore logical to ask what mass of a club head would give the longest drive? From equation 5 we found that the velocity of the ball after impact is given by: 5) vf = [MVi(1 + e)] / (M + m) From this equation, we can see that the velocity of the ball should increase if we increase the velocity of our swing, the elasticity of the ball, or the mass of the club head. We should also recognize that increasingShow MoreRelatedPhysics Roles in Golf634 Words   |  3 PagesPhysics is in everything around us. It is in us driving a car, walking down the street, and pushing a child on a swing. Physics is also in every sport you have ever played, or watched someone play. It is involved in a baseball player swinging his bat, or a swimmer cutting through the water. It is also in golf. Billy Budd Essay Justice Example For Students

Billy Budd Essay Justice War shapes all moral trajectories in this story in many ways. War defines peace and tragedy due to the use and action of disagreement. In Billy Budd, (The movie), Billy ended up getting hung because he was accused of killing a member on the H.M.S. Indomitable. While these men were on the ship, they had certain rights that were stated under the Articles Of War. Each individual was punished under these statements. Ratcliff states, Go find the captain and report to him the winds abeam. Respectfully suggest we ought to take in topsails. (Coxe and Chapman page 46). This quote relates to the suffering that these sailors have to deal with while they are out to sea at war. They have to respect the captains orders at all times otherwise they will be punished. This kind of life that they are going through is kind of ridiculous because its so dull and boring. I would hate to be treated like that because it makes you fell miserable. ODaniel states, Ah, I do love to see two Englishmen fighting each other. Its fonder they are of killing themselves than fighting their proper foes. (Laughs hoarsely) (Coxe and Chapman page 13) The meaning of this quote has to do with the presence of a fight. The main object of war is fighting. If ODaniel was a good man than he shouldnt even bring up this statement because he is heating up conflict. I think that he has some inner problems because he tends to be a little stubborn with others. I think that this quote that Billy states is rather fascinating because it has a lot of meaning to it. Id rather be buried at sea than on the beach, when I come to die. Will you stand by the plank, Tom, So Ill shake a friendly hand before I sink? Oh! But its dead Ill be then, come to think! (All Laugh) (Coxe and Chapman page 29) Billy is telling the readers in this quote that he really doesnt care if he dies or not because he knows that he did the right thing. When he killed the man, he knew in his heart that he had to do what he had to do. He would rather be buried at sea than at the beach because at least he knows that he would be dead somewhere where he feels that he did the right thing in his power. He is the type of person who doesnt care what others think of him. When he killed the man, he probably didnt feel sorry for him, because like War things happen the way that we intend to want them to. For example, if someone has a gun and they want to kill you, you have to do something in your power to defend yourself. Thats exactly what Billy did, he Defended himself. If the Articles Of War made any sense, they shouldnt of killed Billy Budd because he was defending himself. The last quote that I chose from this play has a special meaning to the readers in a way because it emphasizes the characters feelings. When the Butler quotes Hes dead, aint he? Better off than us. (Coxe and Chapman page 27) He seems to be feeling a sense of hurt and anger. It must be tough for them to be on this ship twenty-four hours a day because they have to deal with the same people all day. When Billy died, it was a tragedy for the whole crew, well maybe with an exception of Captain Vere. If it wasnt for war, I think that these men including Billy would have had a good time. I guess Im trying to say that WAR defines death. Most likely when you hear about a war that has occurred, chances are that somebody passed away (obviously). .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 , .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .postImageUrl , .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 , .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0:hover , .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0:visited , .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0:active { border:0!important; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0:active , .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0 .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ueba76f6b3db75cb9dac28c97780362f0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Catcher outline EssayThe Butler has a sense of disappointment in his voice when he says that the dead are better off than he is. That implies that he hates the way that his life is headed. When a person compares the dead as being better than their own life that means that they are in a big sense of Grief. In Conclusion, I would like to say that this play has many Morals to it. You cant be accused as guilty for something that you did when you were only trying to save your own life. I really looked up to Billy throughout the story because he had a lot of self-esteem in himself. He is the only character that would not listen to what anybody had to say he did things his own way. Most important of all, He didnt let War come in between his life while he was learning how to become a man, and I give him a lot of credit for that. We as humans have to realize that war can alsobe a good thing because it necessarily doesnt have to be a bad thing all the time. Without having war in the past, we wouldnt be where we are today and also, we wouldnt be at peace with other nations just like we are with them now.

X-Bar Theory Of Psg Essays - Grammar, Noam Chomsky,

X-Bar Theory Of Psg X-bar syntax, as a theory of phrase structure grammar, makes a significant contribution to both the descriptive and the explanatory adequacy of Linguistic Theory. The aim of a theory of language is to describe a speakers linguistic competence. (Class notes) In order for a grammar to be satisfactory it must satisfy two main conditions: descriptive adequacy and explanatory adequacy. A grammar that satisfies descriptive adequacy describes the grammatical sentences of a language in such a way as to uncover deeper principles and rules, which capture in a more satisfactory way the intuitions of the native speaker. A grammar which is formulated in accordance with the principles and conventions of a general i.e., universal linguistic theory with explanatory power is said to meet with explanatory adequacy. (Class notes) During the first half of the term, we were introduced to a theory of phrase structure grammar (PSG) which includes two levels of categories: word-level (N, V, A, P, etc.) and phrase-level (NP, AP, VP, PP, etc.). However, this is not a satisfactory method of classification because it does not include a description for a string of words that is neither a full phrase nor a word; therefore failing to satisfy descriptive adequacy. Furthermore, it does not satisfy the condition of explanatory adequacy because it does not enable us to state general principles that are valid across different grammatical categories within a language, i.e. category neutral. Moreover, a grammar with two levels of categories is not powerful enough to state principles that hold true universally. In this essay, I will demonstrate how the X-bar theory of phrase structure grammar contributes significantly to both the descriptive adequacy and explanatory adequacy of Linguistic Theory using examples from English and o ther languages. Let us first examine why it is necessary to add a third intermediate grammatical category which is neither a full phrase nor a word. Evidence for this is found in the following phrase: the sultan of Brunei. Firstly, we can prove that this phrase is a constituent by performing the following tests: 1) coordination the sultan of Brunei and ruler of the empire. 2) Substituting the proform one This sultan of Brunei is more handsome than the last one. Both of these tests prove that the constituent is sultan of Brunei and that it is smaller than a full phrase because in coordination and in substituting the proform one, the Determiner the is not included. In other words, it is not correct to substitute the proform one and have, *This sultan of Brunei is more handsome than the last this sultan of Brunei. (Class notes) Thus we see the need for an intermediate category. The best way of representing this category is by using bar notation, i.e. N, N, and N. The reason for this is that it captur es the commonality in the categorial status by the use of the same category symbol and captures the difference in complexity between categories by the number of bars that accompany the symbol. (Class notes) This is an example of how X-bar theory of grammar is able to capture descriptive adequacy more sufficiently than a two-category level PSG. Another advantage of X-bar theory is that it enables us to capture formally a distinction between complements and adjuncts. (Class notes) This is advantageous because it can account for certain ambiguities. For example, in PSG there is no satisfactory way of capturing the ambiguity in the following: A teacher of high moral principles. X-bar syntax enables us to capture the ambiguity very clearly in the following way: A teacher of high moral principles vs. A teacher of high moral principles In the first tree structure, the meaning of the sentence is the teacher has teaches high moral principles. In the second one, the teacher is a person who has high moral principles. Thus, the complement is closest to the head noun, i.e. sister of the N, and the adjunct is sister of the N. Another reason for which it is advantageous to distinguish between a complement and adjunct is that this distinction enables us to account for the distributional properties of PPs in terms of their status either as complements or as adjuncts. (Class notes) Firstly, it is only possible to have

The family life cycle consists of six stages, which for the basis of a person’s life. It begins with The Young Adult in which parents learn to accept separation from their children, the development of intimate peer relationships and becoming independent financially. I will be entering this stage soon enough to the point where my parents have told me about their struggles and what I should do when entering this stage. I have learned to become dependant on myself financially and how to separate from them in the future. The second stage involves The Newly Wed Couple in which a couple commits to a new relationship. Both of my parents found the separation from their families hard to do because once they had their arranged marriage they would move from India to Canada. They would be leaving a familiar environment and living with a complete stranger. My parents had to start from the beginning and learn how to accumulate their finances within a joint account. This taught me how to become prepared for a similar situation I will face in the future and how to become responsible for my significant other and myself. The family life cycle continues with The Couple with Young Children, and how they learn to accept new members into the family unit. â€Å"This includes adjusting the marital relationship to accept children, taking on the roles of being parents, and realigning relationships with families of orientation to include grandparent roles.† – Text Book.... Writing is an Art Form Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Writing is an Art Form - Essay Example Writers on the other hand, those who create art that challenges the imagination and visual capacity of our brains, continue to languish in the background as little celebrated forms of art. That is a reality that most writers have come to accept even while considering that writing as an art form is almost as old as time itself. The hieroglyphs in the ancient Egyptian tombs were proven to actually be an ancient form of hand writing, the Dead Sea Scrolls and other books that make up the Bible, were written by hand in a language understandable to those of its time. These are artifacts that archeologists and social experts consider to be an ancient form of art with one significant thing in common, these were all done by hand in the most intricate form of writing possible. That type of writing art form is known as Calligraphy and yes, it is considered an art form in our modern times. Those who disagree with calling writing an art form do so on the basis that writing is something that they view more as a skill rather than an art. They argue that writing is something that can be learned in school, taught in creative writing classes, and practiced or improved upon. It is their belief that writing is more of a general purpose concept that provides a utilitarian purpose rather than an artistic one. ( For and Against â€Å"Writing is Really an Art Form†) ... It does not spoon feed the minds of its readers / viewers. It begs the person to go beyond what he can see and instead, analyze what the written word is making him see, hear, and feel. That is the true magic that can only be experienced by someone who is truly an artistic writer. Writing, just like any other art form requires a tremendous amount of training, patience, and education. Just as painters go to art school and photographers go to photography school, writers go to journalism or creative writing school in order to further understand their craft. While painters learn about how the strokes of their brushes and the combination of colors on their canvass creates a picture for the viewers, writers learn that the stroke of a pen and the stringing together of just the right words can transport their readers into another place and time just as a painting would. Photographers observe the world around them and take a visual picture of what they observe to be the good and bad, the beaut iful and the ugly about their surroundings. Writers on the other hand, creatively portray the situation around them, challenging their readers to decide for themselves if the picture as portrayed in words truly does justice to what their mind can see. That is what art is all about. Be it by paint brush, camera lens, or stroke of a pen, or a tap on the keyboard, these people bring their emotions to the front of their work by stirring the same emotions in their viewers and readers. This is a far more difficult task when done in the form of writing as a writer must use a perfect balance of descriptive words to bring his emotions to light. Whereas a painter or photographer merely recreates his emotions using actual materials or things in

Pollution Summary Essay Example for Free

Pollution Summary Essay What is Air Pollution? The air we breathe supplies the oxygen that sustains life. Humans need oxygen to survive, and plants and animals need oxygen to survive. Our air supply has become contaminated by human activity. We have created machinery that has produced smog and acid rain. We have created a green house effect and have made holes in our ozone layer. Each of these acts can cause serious health problems for humans and animals, and can cause grave harm to our vegetation and ecosystems. There are seven main types of air pollutants. Raven (2008) describes them as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, hydrocarbons, ozone, air toxics, and carbon oxides. Particulate matter can come from dust, soil, soot, and asbestos Nitrogen oxides come from gasses that are produced by chemical interactions between atmospheric nitrogen and oxygen. Sulfur oxides come from chemical interactions between sulfur and oxygen. Hydrocarbons come from chemical interactions between hydrogen and carbon. Ozone comes in two forms; (1) oxygen’s reaction with UV radiation in the stratosphere and, (2) oxygen reaction in the troposphere what creates smog. Air toxics can be radioactive substances, fluorides, and hydrochloric acid, and carbon oxides are carbon monoxide and dioxide. Causes of Air Pollution Chemicals, human sources, and natural sources contribute to air pollution. Air pollution can be traced all the way back to Ancient Roman times. â€Å"Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. † (Caroline, David, Michael, Mindy, Neil, and Vikas, 1999, The Environment: A Global Challenge. Air Pollution). Air pollution occurs in the atmosphere and can move easily from one location to another, it is a global concern. Air pollution is a problem both outdoors and inside homes. Chemicals There are seven main types of air pollutants according to a regulatory perspective. These are: particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, carbon oxides, hydrocarbons, ozone, and air toxics. Particulate matter is made of thousands of solid and liquid particles hanging in the atmosphere. Solid particulate matter is commonly known as dust; whereas as liquid articulate matter is known as mist. Particulate matter includes the following pollutants: soot, lead, asbestos, soil particles, sea salt, and sulfuric acid droplets. Nitrogen oxides are gases produced as a result of interaction between nitrogen and oxygen involves a supply of energy such as combustion of fuels resulting in high temperatures. Sulfur oxides are gases. These gases are a result of a chemical interaction between sulfur and oxygen. When combined with water, the result is sulfuric acid. Carbon oxides consist of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Carbon monoxide has no color, smell, or taste and is second as an air pollutant only to carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is also does not have color, smell, or taste and is a greenhouse gas. Hydrocarbons consist are a varied collection of organic compounds including hydrogen and carbon. Small hydrogen molecules are gaseous at room temperature. Hydrocarbons include methane (colorless and odorless gas principally included in natural gas), benzene (which is a liquid at room temperature), and paraffin (which is a solid at room temperature). Ozone is a form of oxygen that is a pollutant in one area of the atmosphere but essential in another area of the atmosphere. Hazardous air pollutants (HAPS) consist of hundreds of other air pollutants such as chlorine, lead, hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde, radioactive substances, and fluorides. Humans Many chemicals that cause air pollution exist naturally in our world. These chemicals are harmful in both their natural form; however, become even more harmful when burned by humans for fuel, heat, or electricity. The two main causes of air pollutants in urban areas are transportation and fuel combustion from stationary sources. The stationary sources are heating and cooling for buildings and coal-burning power plants. Vehicles such as cars, trains, heavy-duty trucks, and airplanes, produce high amounts of carbon dioxide while fuel combustion produces high amounts of sulfur dioxide. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) â€Å"are man-made compounds that were originally developed in 1930 as a safer alternative to the refrigerants then in use such as sulfur dioxide and ammonia.

Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities :: essays papers

Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities Charles Dicken’s Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities are two of the greatest English novels ever written. One chronicles the twists and turns of the life of a young man named Pip while the other serves as an account of the story of one family during the French Revolution. In both novels, there are contrasts between characters that are representative of the themes of the novels. In Great Expectations, the themes are good vs. evil and guilt vs. innocence, while in A Tale of Two Cities the main themes are resurrection and revolution. However, the theme of good vs. evil is a theme common to the two books and there are contrasts between characters in both books that represent this theme. The characters include Madame Defarge and Miss Pross, and Carton and Darnay, from A Tale of Two Cities, Orlick and Joe, and Magwitch and Miss Havisham, from Great Expectations. A Tale of Two Cities is set in France during the 1780’s, a very tumultuous time in the history of the French nation, when the lower classes were rebelling against the oppression, and unfair rights and privileges of the upper classes. It was during this time that France was transformed from a divine right monarchy into a republic, following the execution of King Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette. Dickens gives his own impressions of French society at the time through his narration of the story. His distaste for the extravagance and greed of the French upper-class is apparent in his description of the powerful aristocrat entertaining other aristocrats. He depicts the wastefulness of the aristocrats, and their use of servants, while the poor lack even a means of subsistence. Although Dickens gives compassionate descriptions of the poor, such as when the Marquis is passing through his town, and the deplorable conditions in which they lived in Saint Antoine, he nevertheless also displays his aversion to the mobs of Paris. In his description of the courtroom that Darnay was being tried in, Dickens portrayed the crowd to be â€Å"blueflies† – flies that feed on dead bodies. This simile implies that the mob finds joy in death, regardless of the innocence or guilt of the person being hanged. His view of mobs is also evident when Jerry Cruncher joins a mob of people following Roger Cly’s body, and riots with them for fun.

Power of Active Directory in Windows Server 2003 Essay

In order to understand the concept of active directory first lets take a look at directory service. Directory Service is a service which stores information of using and managing different objects of network at a centralized point. Those objects include printing servers, file servers, printers; fax servers etc . The directory service stores all of the information regarding the resources and at the same time provides mechanism of easy access to the resources’ information for the users. Active directory is also a directory service in windows server 2003 which stores information about the netwrok resources and about the services that make this information available to the users. Now let’s look at the power and key features of active directory in windows server 2003:  ·Multiple selections of directory objects: We can change the common attributes of many users at the one time.  ·Drag-and-drop functionality: You just need to drag and drop the directory objects from one container to another in order to move them  ·Efficient search capabilities: The object oriented searching facility provides efficient search minimizing the traffic on the network.  ·Saved queries: The active directory queries can be saved, exported, reopened and refreshed, and the results of the attributed queries can also be exported.  ·Active Directory command-line tools: A number of command line tools are available to manage the active directory. Those tools are Ntdsutil, Dsget, Dsrm, Dsmod, Csvde, Dsadd, Dsquery, Dsmove and Ldifde.  · Domain functional levels :Active directory’s domain wide features in your network can be enable using domain functional levels.  ·Forest functional levels: The Active directory’s forest wide features in your network can also be now enabled using forest functional levels.  ·Secure All Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) traffic:   All Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) traffic is signed and encrypted by Active directory’s administrative tools, by default. It ensures that the data is not corrupted and that it is coming from the known source.  ·Active directory quota: With Active directory quota, the ownership of objects by a user, computer or group can be limited by assigning quotas.  ·New Group Policy settings: more than 200 group policy setting are included in windows server 2003‘s active directory.  ·New Resultant Set Of Policy (RSoP) Wizard is included which enables you to check the policies assigned to a specific user or computer.  ·Folder redirection is also made very easy.  ·Advanced options for software installation are available, which makes installation process easy and administration effective.  ·InetOrgPerson class has been added to enhance the security and it can be used in the same way as the user class is used.  ·Cross forest support is also provided.  ·The Software Restriction Policies that are included can identify unwanted or hostile soft wares and hence will not let them execute on the computer. But this requires that the system is either being run on Microsoft Windows XP Professional or on a family member of Windows Server 2003.  ·Domain controller renaming: The domain controllers, without demoting, can now be renamed with the active directory of windows server 2003.As well as the domain name can now also be renamed with this.  ·In the domain hierarchy, the domains can be moved from one location to another.  ·The two way transitivity can now be extended by creating forest trust.  ·The users’ access of one domain or forest can be allowed, disallowed or given selective access to another domain of forest.  ·Unnecessary objects of the schema can be deactivated  ·In order to link the auxiliary classes to the objects on dynamic bases, extra support is provided.  ·When the partial attribution set is extended , the resulted administrative actions take place; at that time the Tuning global catalog replication is available for preserving global catalog’s state of synchronization All in all the active directory of Windows server 2003 provides a lot of additional features which to facilitate the management, administration and usage of resources in the network. The security additions are also very remarkable and a lot of flexibility is given to the administrator to check and configure different parameters of the network. Other than this some work has also to improve the responsiveness of the network and to cater with the network traffic. Flexibility for moving objects and domains, and for renaming them is also made easy .And with the new policies introduced the access of a user from one domain of forest to another can also be a controlled effectively. Providing these all functionalities and flexibilities to the networks administrators and mangers make their tasks of access controls, security, managing of objects etc very easy. Childhood obesity is an alarming issue in Australia, and there is not only a rapid national epidemic in Australia and around the world. Obese children are likely to develop detrimental problems in their health and have enduring social, health and economic effects that permeate throughout adulthood. Early detection and management of childhood obesity are critical in preventing obesity during adulthood, considering it is a significant contributor to the adulthood epidemic.
